All White in Brazil

Merry Xmas and a very happy new year to you all. This is just a quick newsletter to keep you posted and say thanks to those of you who have supported me over the last year and to those of who have booked up for next year.

CLINIC NEWS
El Tur and Moulay are both sold out with long waiting lists.
Prasonisi, Rhodes in June is selling very quick now
Punta San Carlos, Baja, Mexico 'down the line' pure wave joy clinic is almost fully booked

Check out the great footage from BOARDS MAGS NEW MPORA Video site of Graham Ezzy in Punta San, Carlos, Baja, Mexico (PSC/BAJA).

UK ACTION
wow - what a month November was, 3.5 to 4.7 weather on so many days and even windy at weekends - YAY! I was loving it, my Panthers and RRD wave twins were eating up the conditions and it was great to catch up with quite a few of you around the breaks.

BRAZIL BECKONS
Late November sees me jet off to Jeri, Brazil to get some pics and perform my now regular clinic there. This year Sophie joined me and for my sins, I took Dave White (Boards mag editor and all-round legend) along as my photographer, and it wa he spent alot of time ripping into both me and the clients and took some superb pics and also reflected on both Jeri itself and the clinic so please check out the links. I will cover more on Brazil in the next newsletter. The sail in the pics is the NEW Ezzy Panther 2 and it has all the usual Ezzy Panther attributes of stability, tuning flexibility, wind range and strength and is now also lighter and smoother thanks to the new white tri - laminate in the middle of the sail.

SANTA
Lots of people have been buying both WINNER TO WAVESAILOR and BEGINNER TO WINNER so a huge thanks for doing this either as a pressie to themselves, or as an investment in their progress, or as a present to others : )

FEEDBACK AND QUOTES
A very enthusiastic person has started a thread on my coaching on the Boards forum so if you fancy posting on there then that can be your pressie to me and perhaps take the time to reflect on some of your favorite quotes of mine on Facebook

Whilst it is cold you can still run, swim, bike and hit the gym and the fitter you are the quicker you will progress and the more you will enjoy your sessions. Those of you who have booked clinics please do be as fit as humanly possible for them and get your hands tough (surgical spirit application works).
Here is to a perfect 10 and I look forward to seeing and coaching you.

Spread the love and feel the joy,
Jem

early summer in CAPE TOWN

On the way to West Australia I stayed over in South Africa for a few days and we scored some fun wave sailing at Sunset beach, big bay and Scarborough point.
The wind is starting to get more consistent now and it could be the start of a real windy summer in the mother city. Liz Metcalfe from cape sessions was there to take some shots.
On 22 November Klaus Party house and I left from Dusseldorf on Air Berlin with all windsurfing equipment. Arriving at 6 in the morning awaking at 4 am for breakfast, this was always going to be a day of chillin out in Table view.
The swell forecast was great for Elands Bay and when Jeroen and I arrived we checked the conditions and saw clean hollow waves without the big weekend crowds. What a score!

Driving back to Cape Town with surf sessions in the bag, next day the wind picked up already.
First Sunset Beach in the early afternoon for 5,8 and then 5,0. And when that sail also became a hand full it was time to drop down to big bay for a late session and some awesome jumping conditions.

Next day we left at 6 am to the Cape Point area. Due to roadworks the traffic has been crazy already that time of the day while they are building a whole new bus lane in to the city.
Coming around the mountain at Rondebosch things were back to normal and arriving in the reserve we decided for a session at Scarborough, turning out to be worth our while.
On a dropping swell we timed the upcoming tide and found the following conditions,,
thanks to my sponsors Fanatic, Maui Sails and Pro Limit.
all the right gear that takes you off!

Alberto Menegatti No1 in the FW World Ranking

15 races came with the event in Fortaleza.
We raced from medium to strong Wind, using mostly my 10,9 and sometimes the
9,9.

Great venue, sometimes gusty but everyday
windy, allowed the organizer of the event to set every hour one race, making
this one of the Best Spot to compete.

The event started with lots of names, and
the top 2 at the World Championship, Steve Allen and Wojtek Brzozowki starting
as the favorites. With the race going on, the light turned into an other
direction with Alberto Menegatti and Gabriel Browne taking the lead and the
fight for the Top 2 places of the competition. One day to the end Alberto was
on the lead with 13 races done, with Gabriel that anyhow menage on the last day
to secure victory of the event with great Racing.

“   I had most of
the times amazing speed, that allowed me to fight for victory till the last
race, able to recover also when had a bad start or something was going wrong.
I made few
mistakes that cost me a lot, specially on the first day of the event, where
after leading the event with a big gap i took the wrong course and lost it or
the last day where i stopped in a hole for over 15 seconds. I’m stoked anyway
on the result i had and specially on my speed that i got thanks to my toys 11,8
10,9 9,9able to fly in all conditions   ”     -
Alberto Menegatti ITA 4

At the end of the year, Alberto Menegatti is No 1 of the Formula Windsurfing World Year Ranking. Next World Championship is in Argentina at the end of March. For more infomation at the FW World Tour visit: http://www.formulawindsurfing.org/news.php?id=1692

Speed – Flow – Power

Wise words of Ozzy windsurfer Scotty McKercher. These 3 ingredients ‘Speed, flow and power’ totally guide me through my moves. Whether it is a jump, a wave ride or anything else to perform. Without the speed you are no where to continue your motions. The flow means to me; to go with what ever the wave or the moment allows you to do. The power is your personal power, your strength and the will power to go for it a 100%. This bottom turn (see pic) felt good. I remember ‘laying it down’ and I recognized myself getting my ‘groove back’. Good feelings, and good times. For sure a day to remember: Great waves, good solid winds, amped sailors (preparing for Jaws that will brake tomorrow!), big smiles and Dan watching me sail and taking this picture!

My toys of joy today were:

Simmer Sail Mission X (4.2)
Starboard Kode ’68.
DaKine 'chick' harness 2010

Andreas Olandersson in West Oz

After a season of injuries behind me I´m finally back in full force, more motivated than ever! And what better way to kick of the training season than with a road trip in Western Australia. We´ve been cruising up and down the coast, following the weather patterns for the past month or so, scoring some mental conditions!!! Everything from perfect down the line sailing in mast high conditions to high wind jumping. Western Australia provides some of the best training grounds in the world this time of the year. It´s our last week here and the forecast is looking good. So folks, it´s on!!!!!

I´ve been on the new 2010 ICON´s and I just received the new Simmer RDM10. The rig feels super light and lively besides this I´ve taken some massive beatings and come out smelling like roses.

Next stop is Cape Town for 3 months high wind jumping boot camp. Stay tuned for the latest updates on my website, www.s-66.com

Word!

The ICON testwinner in German WINDSURFERS

“  Last year was the icon of the favorite of many of our testers. The situation has changed nothing in 2010. The sail has retained all the positive traits of its predecessor. This now feels a little softer, has a bit more power and is lighter in the hands of the surfer. On the beach you can tune it very well for the conditions and preferences. On the water it needs, even if the conditions change so no trimming, and always retains its overall stable and powerful character.  “ Translated from www.windsurfersmag.de

The ICON test favourite in BOARDSEEKER

OVERALL IMPRESSION
Last year, the Icon was a favourite amongst our Clones and it remains
the same for 2010. The sail retains all the great traits of last years
model, whilst being slightly softer in feel this year, slightly more
forward pulling and lighter in the hands. On the beach, the sail offers
good tunability (for different feel and conditions), but once tuned and
on the water, the Icon still performs through the widest range of
conditions, with a reassuringly stable and powerful feel.

New frontiers

Speed sailing can be a lot of fun!
Discard all the times when the weather forecasts failed, you’ve taken off from work and drive for nothing, when the tide was wrong and you got skunked.
Or when you wipe out and make the biggest crash.
When everything comes together and you get a good day it all becomes worth it.

Since Marcel Braas discovered Holland’s fastest spot and called it THE BRACE, fast speeds over 85 kmph have been reached at this spot; but its so fickle there is only very few good days.
At these new spots you see above there is a much bigger tide range for sailing and also more wind directions for going broad and fast.
Marcel found them using google maps and we’ve been venturing out and exploring the area.

It’s now very clear where we need to go when the conditions are on! And 5 km out from the shore, it can be hazardous especially over winter in high winds and bad weather.

It might take a while before records are broken, but the time will come!
Just be patient and watch this space...
