NeilPryde Win Brazilian Formula Nationals

NeilPryde takes top 2 places at Brazilian Formula NationalsThe FW nationals this year took place in the Marina Hotel in the city of Fortaleza.  During the 3 day event, the winds varied from 12 to 16 knots on the first day, 7 to 10 knots on the second day and stronger 15 to 20 knot winds on the last day. Wilhelm Schurmann BRA999, using the new RS:RACING EVOIII 10.7, started the event with a bullet and after four races was leading on the first day. On the second day, we saw something unusual for Fortaleza this time of the year, light winds ranging from 6 to 10 knots during the whole day. Gabriel Browne BRA50, who was also using NeilPryde sails, took over the event standings after another 4 races were completed. On the last day, another 3 races were scheduled and completed to be able to get 11 races in and get the third discard. Gabriel Browne, Wilhelm Schurmann, Paulo dos Reis, Victor Melo, Fabio Melo, Miguel Martinho, Mathias Pinheiro (1st Master) Kiani Kurosh and Sean Obrien, all had a good battle, but in the end, local sailor Gabriel Browne, sailed flawless and took the last 3 races and the National Title. Second place went to Wilhelm Schurmann (1st light weight) followed by Paulo dos Reis in third. In fourth place was another local sailor, Victor Melo, followed by Miguel Martinho (2nd light weight) from Portugal, who beat Fabio Melo on the tie brake, both of these sailors had a race bullet as well, showing how close the races were. Wilhelm Schurmann had this to say about the new RS:RACING EVOIII:The new RS:RACING EVOIII is impressive; the sail is super stable and very fast, both upwind and downwind. On the second day we had very light winds and everyone was on 12s, my biggest sail was the 10.7, and even though it was small for the conditions, it still performed brilliantly. Out of 11 races, I only had one race out of the top 3, so I am stoked about the new sails performance. This event also served as a warm up for the Formula GP due to start this week. Results of the top 3:1. Gabriel Browne BRA 50 (Starboard)2. Wilhelm Schurmann BRA999 (Neilpryde/Starboard)3. Paulo Dos Reis BRA3333 (North Sails/BL3/Mitsubishi DVM)

Simmer wins the British Speed Championships

Zara Davis the current Women’s No 1 Speedsailor and fellow Simmer team rider Kevin Greenslade took first places at the UK speed championships which is a counting round of the ISWC world tour. These wins ensure Zara stays on top of the women’s ranking of the ISWC and puts Kevin up the ranking at his 1st speed event.

The Winds were moderate for a speed event at 18 knots average (but the round counted as over 25% of the fleet went over28 knots). Which shows Kevin’s amazing top speed of over 34 knots and an average speed over the 500m course of 32.75 knots, a testament to efficiency of the Simmer race sails.

Zara’s comment after the days racing was“The sails made the speed a lot easier to maintain in the choppy water and light winds as the forward pull of the 2010 race sails just keeps you planning through the lulls and chop”.

Kevin said “ Amazing speed out of these sails in the conditions. I was knot faster than my nearest rival, I can’t wait to see what Tomas will produce for 2011
