A total of 12 races were completed during the 4 day event with winds ranging from 15 to gusts over 30 knots on some days.
The San Francisco Yacht Club organized a spectacular event. Formula windsurfing North American and Kite Racing North America events were held together to provide an exciting week for the crowd at the beach in Cristy field. With the race start set close to the beach, most sailors came really close to shore on the first tack making it an incredible view for the spectators.
Wilhelm Schurmann had this to say about the event:
" What an awesome week, the fog did not show up this year so we had sunny warm weather and very windy conditions. Jesper was going very fast and had some misfortune in breaking a boom on one race and a mast on the last race. We had some really close races and it felt like a match race as one would cover the other and sometimes after a 20 minute race, less than 10 seconds separated us and sometimes with a local sailor between us.
The locals were very fast and they know how to handle + 30 knot breeze as if it is 15 knots, most of the time they knew exactly were to go, especially playing the currents that can be as strong as 3 to 4 knots.
The San Francis Yacht club, the race commity and everyone involved on making the event happen did a fantastic job. Everyone from the sailor to the organizers is always so friendly that you just want to keep coming back to race here.
Special thanks to Steve Bodner for putting us up at his place and for making the Formula event happen.
I hope to be back next year".
