GALLERY: Fanatic Camps – Lanzarote

Between the 5th and 17th of June Lanzarote hosted another of the Fanatic Camps with Yoli and Tom De Brendt. We plucked a few photos of the camp from the interweb through various means and got some words about the event from the centre owners where the camp was held.

“Windsurfing at Lanzarote? Of course!! Most of our clients at the Fanatic Windsurf Camps Lanzarote, from the 5th-17th of June, the soon to be rippers arrived to the most northerly Canarian Island from Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Germany, England, Switzerland, Netherlands and Austria. Some had never heard about Lanzarote as a windsurf destination and were even more surprised by the amazing conditions we got, as well as the really diverse conditions of the spot at Las Cucharas. We were happy to again host our camps at the Windsurfing Club Las Cucharas, a Fanatic ‘The Boarderscenter’. 12 Days of sailing, theory, exercises, video analysis, photoshoots and much more, plus many great moments shared with our very international group made for 12 incredibly nice days with a great atmosphere. It was nice to be here again and in 2014 we will be back with more camps! So don´t forget to check our dates at www.windsurflabor.de

VIDEO: Baja with Sarah Delaunay

Not so long ago we featured the rather delightful Sarah Delaunay here on boardseeker.com as our Dec 2012 Boardseeker Babe. Well it looks like she’s been taking to the waves again, this time in Baja where both windsurfing and looong SUP wave rides were on the cards. Now back from that trip she has released a video of her adventures just to make us all jealous. Check out Sarah’s skills at this amazing spot and CLICK HERE to have a browse through that Boardseeker Babe feature. Just to add to her rather long list of ticks she also produced, sung and recorded the sound track to the video…

AWT Pistol River – DAY 1

Official word from the AWT organisers has reached us, so far the wind is still to materialise but keep a close eye here for more updates when it does.

DAY 1:
The competitors have descended on the town of Gold Beach, Oregon for the 2013 AWT Pistol River Wave Bash presented by Starboard. The opening night party and registration was hosted by the Inn of the Beachcomber and everyone had a blast with BBQ, beer and music… always a winning combination. Day 1 was a relaxing day as the wind didn’t materialize enough to run any heats, but we’re ready for when it does show up. The main action on the beach was with a SUP clinic from Bernd Roediger and Fiona Wylde. They gave the crowd plenty of great tips on paddling and catching waves. I’m sure some will use them to their advantage at the upcoming SUP Gold Beach Challenge presented by the Inn of the Beachcomber that will be running on Day 2. Stay tuned tomorrow for a report on the action and photos from this exciting SUP event.

VIDEO: World Wide Watt

This latest freestyle clip features German freestylers Meikel Thies, Valentin Böckler, Lennart Brünig and Hannes von Weihe sailing up in the North Sea where they managed to find a bit of a freestyle secret spot, glassy flat and constant winds, the ideal training ground.

Inside the AWT

The next edition of the AWT kicks off down in Oregon, bringing many of America’s, and indeed the World’s, top windsurfers together for another epic battle on the water. Follow all the action right here on Boardseeker with Brit abroad, Si Crowther.

Gold Beach, Oregon, plays host to the 2013 Pistol River Wave Bash. Competitors have arrived for registration at the Inn of the Beachcomber and have kicked the event off in true style with an epic opening party. The night got started with a great BBQ. Beer and music flowed, and the thirst for competition saw beer pong heats get under way into the night. A lot of fun was had by all. There were a few sore heads in the morning.

The first official day of competition saw no contestable wind, so the event remains on hold until conditions improve, and looking at the forecast, Thursday looks most likely, however, conditions can change quickly at Pistol & the AWT team are poised ready should the wind kick in tomorrow.

Bernd Roediger and Fiona Wylde got the action started on the beach by holding a wave SUP clinic, sharing valuable tips and techniques for making the most out of a wave SUP session. Competitiors were released for the afternoon, everyone then met later for supper at an amazing little mexican diner called Playa del sol, once all fed and watered, we headed for a movie showing at a local church, a great little extreme sports movie called ‘Purpose’

Whilst we’re waiting for the wind to show in Pistol River why not check out the action from last year’s event?

The second day also held further tow-in contests and you can check out all the results below.

2- Marc Lagarrigue

3- Alexandre Colin

Can Koester Be Beaten in 2013? Title Contenders Head to Head

With locations like Chile and South Africa added to the PWA Wave tour, the competition is wide open with a determined group of sailors chasing down Philip Koester. With the PWA Gran Canaria fast approaching, Boardseeker finds out the vital stats for some of the top title contenders…Who can win in 2013? And can Koester be beaten?

We start with former world champion, Victor Fernandez…victorName: Victor Fernandez

Sail No: E42

Age: 29

Height: 184cm

Weight: 83kg

Where have you been training over the winter?

I´ve been in Chile, Maui, Perú and Almerimar. All destinations were quite good.

What special equipment will you have for Pozo?

I´m trying to decide Quad or tri-fin board for Pozo as both work well for me. I probably sail more on the Quads as I feel a bit safer for my wave moves. 76, 82 and 89 will be the main boards for Pozo. I use the 4 batten sail Hero from 3.4 up to 5.3.

What event are you most looking forward to on the tour this year and why?

Chile because it will be the first time we have a PWA event there and we can have different conditions to all the events we usually have on tour with bigger waves and more down the line waveriding.

What is your biggest strength?

My motivation, consistency and passion for the sport.

What can you do that you think will score the highest with the judges this year?

BIg jumps, doubles, tweaked push loops, back loops, good waveriding.

Who is your biggest rival?

Top 32, they are very good sailors. Philip is obviously the favourite rider for the event.

And who else would you like to see on the PWA tour that could make it to the top?

Young guys like Alessio, Leon have good potential in this conditions. It will be great to watch them.

UPDATED – VIDEO+GALLERY: PWA Costa Brava – A2 Victorious

Antoine Albeau has shown again that he is the man to watch out for this year. Taking the top spot at this event after dominating on the World Tour last year, he really is showing his form and experience. However, there is certainly a shuffle in the ranks taking place and some fresh blood is starting to appear, perhaps this is a sign of things to come. With a taste of the podium the likes of Julien Quentel and Matteo Iachino, who came second and third respectively, will now be filled with the confidence the needed to continue making damage to the top 3 positions. One person not to forget is Alberto Menegatti, struck down with a couple of spates of bad luck and perhaps not the best decision making, he found himself still winning many heats and even one round but it wasn’t enough as only four rounds were complete and thus not enough discards were available.
