Sebastian Kornum wins 3rd Danish race

The Danish Racing Series was a great success at the 3rd event of the year. The Danish JP/NeilPryde team rider Sebastian Kornum DEN-24 was attending and still nobody could beat him in any formula race. In perfect conditions for formula on day 1, Sebastian won all 4 formula races. He has now won each of the 12 formula races of the Danish Racing Series so far:
“I have never felt as confident on a racing course as right now. My equipment is perfect for the course, and it allows me to handle really difficult situations out there without putting too much effort into it or getting tired. This year I am always ready for another race!”
Another Young NeilPryde/JP team rider, Christian Justesen, was battling for the podium position and finished 3rd!
On the 2nd race day the wind was gusting up to 40 knots onshore making it really challenging for all competitors. The slalom flag was up and the race crew even had a hard time setting the course in the rough conditions. Sebastian Kornum was using his JP Slalom 56 and NeilPryde EVO5 6,4 through all races and finished 3rd. Sebastian:
“It’s been many years since I have enjoyed slalom races as much as I did at this event. It was extreme and thrilling going full speed towards the first buoy. A feeling I have missed for a long time, and I look forward to more high wind slalom races in future.”
Also attending the event were 3 Norwegian racers and German IFCA Slalom World Champion.
CONGRATULATIONS Sebastian and Christian!
…next competition for Sebastian is the Formula Worlds in Croatia. He won the light weight title in the 2012 Formula Worlds in Latvia.

Steven wins EFPT in Russia

Steven Van Broeckhoven reports:
————————————————————
Hi all,
After 2 years of not competing on the European Freestyle Pro Tour (EFPT), I decided to take part on the first tour stop this year in Eysk in Russia (20-25. May). The event is really well organized and has high price money of €10,000. All the competitors had free accommodation in the hotel, including all the food and activities. Additionally there was a Tow-In competition with price money of €1,000.
There was a chance of wind in the morning of the first day, so we had a stand-by time during the morning, but unluckily the wind never turned up. During the day Different Eyewear organized a climbing competition with all the riders which was really funny. In the evening the rider presentation was hold.
On the second day, there was no wind and everybody was able to practice Tow-In. In the evening we organized a Tow-In show, with a second boat creating a little wave which was used as a ramp. It was Julian Mas from France and me, who tried to make a nice show for the people and went for some syncro-moves. Check out the following clip on YouTube.
Even the third day didn’t provide strong enough winds to run a competition. However, I went on the water to get myself ready for the lightwind conditions. I managed to pump myself into planing some times and perform some powerful moves.
On the 4th day, again the wind didn’t show up and so the Tow-In competition was hold! Unluckily, I crashed on my first attempt and was on a 9th place after the first run. I was quite under pressure in my second and last try! I landed a clean Triple-Funnel and could win this Tow-In competition!
Luckily, on the 5th day the wind finally showed up! The weather was really bad and the wind picked up really quickly and even peaked to 30knots! I rigged all my smaller gear, but as the heats were hold, the wind dropped more and more, so, it was really difficult to choose the right sailsize.
My 1st heat was against Dimitry from Russia! I was on a 5.1 which was a little small but I won the heat and advanced. In my next heat I faced the strong sailing Julien Mas. The heat before got 2 times cancelled, because the clouds and the rain made the wind really inconsistent. Just before my heat, the wind pick up again but I decided to take a big enough sail! During the heat the wind dropped again! I was able to do enough moves, but the judges decided to cancel the heat and continue the competition really early the next day!
On the last day of the competition, the forecast predicted strong winds, but unluckily the wind dropped already at around 6.00am. So the next possible start was at 9.00am and all of the riders stayed on hold.
At 2 o’clock, after the wind turned, some gusts showed up and we decided to continue the competition. They changed to the best move format, because the wind was still really light and we had to wait for a gust to perform a move! I won against Julian Mas, Max Rowe and had to sail against Dieter van der Eyken in the final. It was not easy in this light wind, but I managed to sail a solid heat with enough power moves to win the heat and so the Single Elimination!
The judges decided to run a double elimination, in which my good friend Phil Soltysiak had an amazing comeback and just could get stopped by Dieter van der Eyken. So, it was again Dieter against me in the final of the Double Elimination. The wind dropped even more and I had to pump really a lot to get planing and show my moves! In the end I had more powermoves and a better heat and won the Double Elimination and the competition.
I am really happy about winning this event, because I was really motivated to win it in advance. It was not easy in this lightwind conditions and tough to win. Hopefully there will be more events like this in future.
I want to thank Vladimir Yakovlev for organizing this amazing event and all the people who did support me!
The season started very good for me and I will do everything to keep it up like this.
Met vriendelijke groet/ Best Regards,
Steven Van Broeckhoven B72

Tyson Poor in Baja

Tyson Poor US-22 reports:
———————————————–
Just got back from an EPIC week down at Punta San Carlos, Baja Mexico!
It all started a couple of weeks ago when we heard of a good south swell that was about to hit Mexico and California. I was already headed down to Solosports Adventure Holidays, for a week long wave clinic, so I was stoked. A few friends from Maui heard about the swell and decided come join in the fun. Jake Miller, Bryan Metcalf-Perez, Casey Hauser, Nick Warmuth, Sarah Delaunay, and Wyatt Miller were all headed down for a week.
We all got a good warm-up on the first day with some smaller waves and cranking 4.2 wind. As the week went on, the wind and waves just kept firing! From Monday until Saturday, we got overhead to logo high waves, with some mast high, all day long. The wind didn’t pick up until around 11am, allowing for some good surfing and SUP with the crew. Got my new JP SUP 8’6″ Surf PRO two days before heading down, and have been loving it! Good 3 hour SUP sessions, followed by another 3 hours windsurfing session. By the end of the day, everyone was pretty spent.
After 6 straight days, the waves finally backed down, even though the wind was still going strong. We packed up the van with all the surfboards, SUP’s, and windsurfing gear, and headed back North to California. Couldn’t have asked for a better week of windsurfing out in the middle of nowhere with killer conditions, best friends, and a great host, Kevin Trejo at Solosports.
bye

JP at Backyards

straight to the Backyards video.
Jason Polakow KA-1111 states,
“With so many North winds and medium size swells this winter in Hawaii it made it very difficult to score good windsurf conditions. Myself and Robby Swift took advantage of this rare opportunity and headed to the north shore of Oahu to score an epic day at a place known as Backyards.”
Actually this was already Jason’s second trip to Oahu lately. The first time when he was there he also found great conditions. Some international windsurf magazines already published Jason’s report.
Robby Swift K-89 pulled off some insane aerials, but his wipe-outs were a class of its own!

European Formula Cup – Filip comes 2nd
Filip Korczycki POL-555 reports from the European Formula Cup in Lithuania:
Svencele – amazing place on the coast of Curonian Lagoon in Lithuania. Just in the middle of nowhere you can find one of the best wind/kitesurf spots I have ever seen.
It was my 4th time to visit Lithuania for the Baltic Cup Formula event. This year the rank of the competition went even higher as it was the leg of 2013 Formula European Cup with the points to the World Ranking. Again the organizers and wind conditions didn’t fail and we had 3 days of great wind blowing up to 25 knots and completed eleven races with the strong fleet of forty Formula riders coming from the Baltic region. Both on the water and on the beach everything was organized at the highest level. Big thanks to all involved for their effort.
I am really happy to finish in the 2nd position behind Masters World Champion Latvian Janis Preiss and be the only one to beat him in the single race. The competition was really tough and intense with nice long races and a lot of fighting around the course race.
Can’t wait for the revenge at the next European Cup stop in Tallin that will be held in the end of June.
See you all on the water
