BSA Slalom weekend at Weymouth
The Official Test Centre hosts the next stop on the British slalom tour…
With an absolutely stonking forecast for the coming days, the BSA Slalom event at Portland Harbour promises to be an incredible one. Hosted by the OTC and Puravida, there will be stacks of great demo equipment to try. The first event of the year at Hayling Island saw no result, so it’s all to play for going into this second round of Slalom.
To celebrate the launch of the new collaboration between the OTC and PuraVida (more details here), there will be a huge party on Saturday night to kick off the new venture. Local band ‘The Cheapshots’ will rock the party tent following a big BBQ. For any non-windsurfing family/spouses, the OTC will be running taster sessions at an incredible £5 per person! The perfect way to get into the sport…

Kev Greenslade to head up new OTC venture
Top racer Kev Greenslade takes the reins as the new OTC/Puravida Centre Manager…
Kev has been a well known name on the slalom and speed circuits for many years now. Having enjoyed national and international success on raceboard in the 90′s, Kev has gone on to secure a further two British titles in 2010/11 at Weymouth Speed week – and now he is stepping up to run the latest setup from the Official Test Centre, powered by Pura Vida.
The new arrangement means that the OTC in Weymouth will now have nearly twice as many boards and sails on offer, improving on the already excellent levels of kit available. The project goes live at the end of March and will be overseen by Kev.
“It’s with great pleasure that The Official Test Centre and Pura Vida announce that Kev Greenslade is going to be the man holding the reins as the Centre Manager of their new venture. On the Weymouth windsurfing scene he is one of the most friendly and approachable characters on the water, so was an obvious choice … if he could be poached from his day job!
Asked about his move, Kev said, “After spending 20 years working in the aerospace industry, it is like a dream come true to have this opportunity, especially working with two of the most proactive energetic guys in the industry. I look forward to helping others at all levels of our sport and spreading the OTC / Pura Vida love. See you on the water!”
Jim Brooks, from Pura Vida comments, “We’ve been sponsoring Kev for more than two years now and know just how passionate he is about the sport, so have been talking about putting a plan into action for quite a while. He’s perfect for the job and provides a real focal point for impartial informed advice in everything to do with windsurfing. We just can’t wait to get going.”
Tris Best, from OTC UK added, “Kev has always been a great support since we opened the UK centre in 2010, so to have him as a colleague now and working with him to help push the sport in the area is really very exciting. His ability on the water is matched by his modesty and willingness to help – he’s an inspiration to lots of the guys in our Team 15 club, so we’re sure to produce some great young windsurfers under his watchful eye in the future!”

Following an instructor course down at Portland Harbour, Sam Ross catches up with Kevin Greenslade. The Weymouth Speed Week Champion for the last two years, Kev certainly knows a bit about going fast. With some great winds and a revolutionary new approach to speedsailing equipment and setup, Kev explains how he managed to break the 40-knot mark.
Also spotted recently was this clip from West Kirby. As hallowed ground for speedsailors all over the country, Chris Bates provides a great onboard view as he really pushes 40 knots, using a handy Flymount.

Weymouth Speed Week 2011 – Monday 17th
Euro Speed Tour organiser Pete Davis reports from the first windy day of Weymouth Speed Week 2011…
On the 3rd day of Weymouth Speed Week, the final leg of the Euro Speed Tour, the competitors finally got to show how fast they were. The wind gradually built throughout the day but with a falling tide, chop built up later on which made it very interesting with the morning leaders having to try hard in the afternoon to hold their positions. If the event finished today the dark horse from Luxemburg, David Garrel would win the tour by a slim margin over Thorsten Mallon from Germany. In the UKWA fleet Kev Greenslade defends his title from last year in 1st place, Ant Baker trying for the double Slalom and Speed crowns in 2nd place and Martyn Ogier from Guernsey in 3rd place.
