Zara Davis Celebrates
Zara Davis is, and rightly so, still celebrating her speed world record that she set recently in Luderitz. Innovative ways of marking achievements are always welcomed, and Denise Enstone from Jackyards has certainly managed this. Denise designed and made Zara some custom seat covers for her bellowed T5; a constant reminder of the record we are sure these will be well used!
Congratulations again Zara! Check out all the coverage from the Luderitz speed challenge here.

Video: Luderitz Speed Challenge with Martyn Ogier
As many of us know Luderitz was on fire this year. First the 50 knot barrier was smashed, then 51, then eventually 52 knots was broken. What’s more impressive is that several speed sailors managed to break the elusive 50 knot barrier during that time and Starboard team rider Martyn Ogier was one of them. Reaching 50.20 knots he is no doubt super happy with the result.

Mon 17th – Ross with Remi, Mellouet remembered, Luderitz, Olympic dreams and more…
Welcome back and we have a couple videos to round up the day. The first from Sam Ross who caught up with Remi Vila for a closer looks at the Starboard Futura compared to the Starboard Carve.
The second video comes from the world of SUP. There is one or two windsurfing shots in there as well but the SUP action is pretty awesome, big waves, radical turns and a bit of trickery sums it up nicely.

Good morning all, according to the Mayan Calendar this could be our last week of windsurfing news, so lets make it the best yet. Actually we are not so convinced by all this Mayan malarkey but if you so wish please feel free to leave your comments about it below.
Swiftly moving on then and looking ahead to the 2016 Olympics we have a video of hope from the Bic Techno 293 scene. Many of the stars from tomorrow will pass through the 293 class in their campaign to race for their country so it seems only to appropriate to post this video after the recent reinstatement of windsurfing in the Olympic Games.
From a re-birth to a saddening loss. It was a little under a year ago that the french wave sailor Vincent Mellouet was taken from his family and friends in a tragic windsurfing accident on the south coast of France. In that time many memorials have taken place and now his long term girlfriend Blandine Fort has produced this clip to remember his last trip to Fuerteventura. Sail, My Love… is a moving tribute and a reminder that we should always keep safe on the water.
Moving to the safety of flat water. Well perhaps not so safe after you see this video. Speed sailing has been hot news lately due to the records that have been broken and re-broken during the Namibia speed event. In this next video we catch up with Antonine Albeau as he talks about what it is like to blast down a narrow trench at 52 knots!
The final video for the early update today comes from the Carro in the south of France. A few videos of late from there which can only mean that conditions have been firing. For those who are a fan of the point of view angle then this chest mount gives a great onboard perspective.
That’s all for the early update, apologies for the slight technical issues which resulted in the belated news today but join us later for a few more snippets.

Video: Zara Davis on the BBC
Earlier in the week Boards reported that Zara Davis would be on BBC Points West, talking about her incredible World speed record and now as we hoped the video has appeared online too. Please excuse some of the interviewers questions, sounds like their speedsailing (and general windsurfing!) knowledge could be improved, however any windsurfing coverage on the TV gets the thumbs up from us!

Top News This Week
The most talked about piece of windsurfing news again this week was of course the continuation of the Luderitz speed competition; the windsurfing section of the challenge is now over and the canal is being handed over to the kite surfers, but check out all the Luderitz news right here.
In more speedy news British slalom champion Ant Baker was showing off his 2013 North Warps this week; and speaking of showing off looks like the girls are having more than a little bit of fun in Maui here! We are sure yet more showing took place in the Liverpool SWA event last weekend too, check out the gallery and report on the event from Tushingham team rider Jo Wright.
Other big news this week was that it looks like there will be another edition to the PWA calendar in 2013, with Cape Town hosting the final round of the PWA Wave World Tour!
And so we leave you for another week, remember if you ever have any great windsurfing sessions, images, videos or news from your local spot please send through the info to amy@boards.co.uk

Luderitz Concludes
The annual competition held on the man made canal in Namibia has come to a close for another year.
After so many records were broken many riders were hopeful that the last Thursday would deliver more wind that would enable the speeds to be pushed a little further, but unfortunately it was not to be. Yet this will surely go down as one of the best speed sailing competitions in history, with many record broken, many times, and of course the overall speed record not only being taken over 50knots, but over 52 by Antoine Albeau!
Here on Boards we have covered the event every step of the way, so to check out all the coverage just head here; posts include videos, interviews with Antoine Albeau and Zara Davis, images and of course details of even record broken and top speed reached!
We would also like to congratulate all the riders that took part this year, it has been incredible to see everyone pushing the top speeds and it’s certainly inspired us to get the GPS out!
Are you into speed sailing? Has the Luderitz competition inspired you to head our to your nearest speed course too?
