Video: A Month’s Mind
A month has passed since we learned that Mikey Clancy had passed away. In honour of this many friends took to the waters of Cape Town for a paddle out, lead by Mikey’s dear friend Katie McAnena.
“Today is Mikey’s Month’s Mind as we call it in Ireland, a month after he passed, today 06/02/12 which is a big event in Ireland. So many of Mikey’s friends were here in Cape Town for this event that we thought we’d do a paddle out in his memory. So many people came and I’d like to thank them so much; John Skye, Ross Williams, Chris Murray, Andy Bubble Chambers, Max Rowe, Jem Hall, Jamie Hancock, Steven Van Broeckhaven, Chris Friis, Amanda Beenan, Manuel Grafenauer, Dave White, Mike Archer and many many more. Again I am speechless at the loss of an incredible person, an incredible friend and an incredible windsurfer. I honestly have nothing to say that can articulate how the wind has been punched out of all of us and we are truly heartbroken. All our love and thoughts are with his amazing family; Bernie, Sean and Michael Snr today, and every day.”

Katie McAnena wrote in from Cape Town where she organised a one-month-on tribute to Mikey Clancy.
‘Today is Mikey’s ‘Month’s Mind’ as we call it in Ireland, a month after he passed, today 06/02/12, which is a big event at home. VIDEO: Josh Angulo – A Speech for Mikey at RBSC
To many it was certainly no coincidence that the Red Bull Storm Chase found itself in Ireland soon after Mikey’s passing. The now nicknamed Hurricane Mikey that hit Ireland gave these top dedicated athletes, whom of many were good friends to Mikey, a chance to sail his shores in the gnarly conditions he often went out to practice in. For a few it also affirmed their belief in their religion as it appeared to be far too much of a coincidence for such an event to take place, one such person was Josh Angulo. Known to have gone through a few hardships of his own, he came forward at the Red Bull Storm Chase to give a few words about Mikey in front of the worlds media. Thanks to the power of the iPhone cameras we get to see what he had to say. We cannot promise anything in terms of video quality but the quality itself comes from this world famous windsurfer and the words he has to speak.

At the recent Red Bull Storm Chase, Josh Angulo makes a heartfelt speech in honour of Mikey.
One of the first big features to hit was this Young Guns profile of Mikey!
Boardseeker previously caught up with Mikey over Skype, for what would prove to be quick but revealing interview.
Another of our favourite interviews is ‘This Is Why I Windsurf’ a look into what motivated Mikey, especially on those big wave days we’ve all seen him ride.
Some more Mikey videos stand out to us here at Boardseeker; looking back Mikey’s Spring Sessions from 2011, Mikey sailing with great friend Timo Mullen in 2011 and Mikey in NW Ireland, but of course the our favourite has to be Mikey taking on the infamous Magheroarty.

Whether you knew him personally or not, what is your favourite memory of Mikey?

Timo Mullen, home in Ireland for New Year celebrations, borrowed some of his brother’s equipment (so no sponsor logos!) and scored a few rides in 5-8 knots at a remote spot in County Mayo. ‘Mikey Clancy sailed this spot a few times and it was him who gave me the motivation to go here on New Years Day – RIP buddy!’
Filming by Tam Mullen.
