Behind the Lens: Tommy Perkins
Maui is without doubt the most well known windsurfing Mecca, attracting hoards of pros and holiday makers every year, ready to take on the brutal Ho’okipa break. Boardseeker catches up with and gets behind the lens of windsurfer and photographer, Tommy Perkins.
Tommy takes us on a whistle stop tour of Maui, with some unbelievable images, but first lets find out a little more about the man behind the camera:
When my new wife and long-suffering windsurfing widow, Jo, left me in charge of organising our honeymoon destination there was only one place on my mind: Maui. We’ve been lucky enough to have several trips to Maui before, chasing perfect wind and waves. Here’s a few photos that we’ve taken on our trips….

PRESS RELEASE
Agent Eight (NeilPryde, JPAustralia and NP Surf) are hosting an evening of Windsurfing Banter, Beers and Pizzas tonight with Poole Harbour Watersports at 7.30 p.m.(May 15th)

Bubble will show whats coming next from JP Australia in the free-ride market and Robby shows off his latest video master piece ‘Don’t Let Go’ and talks about rigging wave sails. All this whilst indulging in copious amounts of beer and pizza!

Deciding on the winners in each category has been a difficult and arduous job. Two of the categories which were decided by the PWA panel of judges are: Sailor of the Year and Honorary Award of the Year. The sailor of the year for 2012 goes to Philip Koster (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins), for both his performance on the water and the amazing coverage for windsurfing he has generated outside the specialized windsurfing media. The Honorary Award has joint winners, Daida Moreno (Starboard / Severne) and Andre Paskowski, who have shown a phenomenal amount of strength and courage during this past year, as well as providing us with amazing action, films and general promotion of the sport.
This year we also have another joint winner in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Windsurfing Cinematography, and the award goes to Flo Jung (RRD / Gun Sails / Maui Ultra Fins), for the movie “Don’t let go” and to Andre Paskowski for the movies “4 Dimensions” and “Minds Wide Open”.
Over the next few days we’ll also be releasing more exclusive interviews with some of the inaugural winners of the PWA Islas Canarias Excellence Awards.

Video: Chile with Swift and Campello
In December 2012, Robby Swift was joined in Chile by team mate Ricardo Campello. As always both were pushing hard, with some gauging turns form Swift and crazy jumps from Campello; if Chile delivers like this for the PWA event at the end of this year we could be on for an incredible spectacle and one of the best around wave events in a long time!
